In his new role, Gage will oversee Ciena’s product and technology strategy while continuing to lead Product Line Management, Solutions Engineering and Introduction (SE&I), and Quality functions. He will also work closely with the company’s Global Research and Development organization to advance innovation initiatives and deliver differentiated networking solutions that address evolving customer requirements.

Gage has been a member of Ciena’s Executive Leadership Team and most recently served as Senior Vice President, Global Products and Supply Chain. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice President, Product Line Management and Solutions, leading product strategy and solution development efforts across the organization.

He joined Ciena in 2010 through the acquisition of Nortel’s optical networking business. Before joining Ciena, Gage held a variety of global leadership positions at Nortel spanning engineering, product management, marketing, business development, and technology strategy, providing him with extensive experience across the networking and telecommunications sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Gage emphasized that Ciena’s innovation leadership has always been rooted in a deep understanding of customer needs and the networks they are building. He noted that combining product and technology leadership under a unified structure, in close partnership with the research and development organization, will help accelerate execution, improve consistency, and deliver greater value to customers.

Announcing the leadership transition, Gary Smith, President and CEO of Ciena, stated that closer alignment between product and technology strategy will strengthen the company’s ability to bring differentiated innovation to market while supporting long-term growth and industry leadership.

Gage’s appointment is effective immediately.
