Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, April 2026 — Sajid Syed has rejoined Essar as Chief Business Officer – Offshore at Essar Shipping. His return marks a significant leadership development for the company, bringing back an executive with extensive experience across offshore drilling, shipping, renewable energy, and international business development.
Before rejoining Essar Shipping, Sajid Syed was associated with Fourth Partner Energy, where he most recently served as Head (CEO) – International Business and a Member of the Executive Committee. In that role, he spearheaded the company’s international business, held board roles across four countries, and was responsible for incubating and scaling the business from concept to commissioning. Earlier at Fourth Partner Energy, he also served as Head – Open Access Development (Offsite C&I), where he established the renewable energy open access team and drove offsite solar project development across India.
Alongside this, he also served as Board of Commissioner (Member of the Board) at EMITS – Empat Mitra Indika Tenaga Surya, a joint venture between Indika Energy and Fourth Partner Energy in Indonesia. This role added further international governance and renewable energy leadership depth to his profile.
Prior to his renewable energy leadership journey, Sajid Syed held senior roles at Weatherford. He served as Country Manager – Drilling Rigs Business, where he led the India business unit with responsibility across operations, human resources, HSE, supply chain, finance, workforce planning, business development, and full P&L accountability. Earlier, he also served as Director Business Development, Weatherford Drilling International (WDI), focusing on business development, strategic market expansion, and relationship building across India, Asia-Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.
A major and especially relevant phase of his career was his earlier tenure with Essar, where he spent nearly nine years across several offshore and oilfield services-related roles. He served as Chief Marketing Officer, Essar’s Drilling Business, leading development and growth strategies for the drilling business with cross-segment operational responsibility as well as market growth and brand strategies in global markets. He was also Head – Marketing, Contracts & Business Development at Essar Oilfield Services, where he handled offshore and onshore rig marketing, commercial contracts, budgeting, tenders, negotiations, market intelligence, and relationship development with oil and gas companies worldwide. His achievements in these roles included securing major offshore and onshore rig contracts across India, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Earlier, he was involved in Marketing & Business Development at Essar Shipping Limited, and before that served as Head – Tanker Operations, deepening his experience across shipping, chartering, voyage operations, and maritime commercial functions.
His earlier maritime career included roles as Marine Superintendent at Tekne SAM & Essar Shipping Limited, Master Mariner (Captain) at Finaval S.p.A., and a long seafaring journey as Marine Officer including Chief Officer with Finaval S.p.A. and Denholm Ship Management. These assignments built the operational, technical, safety, commercial, and leadership foundation that has shaped his broader executive career across offshore, shipping, and energy businesses.
With this wide-ranging background across offshore drilling, oilfield services, shipping, tanker operations, renewable energy, and international business leadership, Sajid Syed brings a rare combination of commercial, operational, and strategic experience back to Essar Shipping.
