Washington, D.C., United States, September 2025 — Duncan Phillips has been appointed as the Chief Communications Officer at the National Geographic Society, a leading nonprofit dedicated to science, exploration, education, and storytelling.
Phillips has been with the National Geographic Society for over 11 years, where he most recently served as Acting Chief Communications, Marketing and Brand Officer before stepping into the top communications role. He earlier held the position of Deputy to the Chief Communications, Marketing and Brand Officer and Vice President, Strategic Communications, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the Society’s communications and brand strategy.
Before joining the National Geographic Society, Phillips worked at Hill+Knowlton Strategies as a senior account executive, gaining expertise in strategic communications and client management. Earlier in his career, he contributed to The Hodges Partnership as an account executive and media relations intern, where he built his foundation in public relations and campaign execution.
Phillips also worked with the Tampa Bay Rays as a marketing and community relations assistant, supporting sports communications and fan engagement initiatives. His professional journey began as a staff reporter with CollegeBaseballInsider.com and The Collegian, coupled with a role as a public relations assistant at the University of Richmond Athletic Department, where he developed his storytelling and media relations skills.
