Bain & Company names Alexander Schmitz to lead its Private Equity practice in EMEA

LONDON – Bain & Company has officially appointed Alexander Schmitz as the head of its Private Equity (PE) practice for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, effective immediately. Schmitz takes over from Christophe De Vusser, who is set to become the firm’s Worldwide Managing Partner.

With a distinguished tenure at Bain that spans over two decades, Schmitz is well-prepared for his new role. Based in Dusseldorf, he has been a pivotal figure in the company, recently heading the PE group in the Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH) region. Under his direction, the DACH region’s PE business has tripled, supported by significant team expansions in these markets.

Alexander Schmitz is celebrated for his vast experience in financial investor advisory globally, encompassing deal generation, execution, portfolio company transformations, and fund strategy. His leadership prowess was also evident during his tenure as the managing partner of Bain’s Dusseldorf office.

Rebecca Burack, head of Bain & Company’s global Private Equity practice, expressed enthusiasm about Schmitz’s promotion: “We are thrilled about the vision and energy Alexander will bring to his new role. His deep understanding of the industry and commitment to innovation, including the integration of AI tools, will undoubtedly enhance our service offerings to clients.”

In his newly assumed role, Schmitz will drive further growth of Bain’s PE business across the EMEA region, focusing on client and business development, as well as talent recruitment and management. He is tasked with leading the firm’s consulting teams and supporting professional staff, ensuring continued regional and industry leadership.

Schmitz holds a summa cum laude degree in Business Administration from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He also studied at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Viña del Mar, Chile.
