New Delhi, Delhi, India, November 2025 – The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has selected Deepak Gupta as the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited, India’s largest state-owned natural gas company. Deepak Gupta currently serves as Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Limited, where he has been instrumental in driving several strategic and capital-intensive initiatives. His leadership has been central to GAIL’s expansion in pipeline infrastructure, renewable energy integration, and major downstream projects, reinforcing the company’s position as India’s foremost player in the natural gas sector.

Alongside his role at GAIL, he holds multiple key positions in the energy ecosystem. He serves as Chairman of Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL) — a joint venture between GAIL, Coal India Limited (CIL), Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF), and Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL) — where he has overseen progress in one of India’s most ambitious coal gasification projects. He is also Director at South East Asia Gas Pipeline Company in Myanmar and Director at ONGC Petro additions Limited (OPaL), further contributing to regional energy collaboration and petrochemical diversification.

Before joining GAIL, Deepak Gupta had an illustrious 31-year career at Engineers India Limited (EIL), where he rose through the ranks to become Executive Director (Projects). During his tenure, he managed large-scale EPC projects, refinery expansions, and infrastructure development across India and abroad. His expertise in project execution, business strategy, EPC management, and leadership has been widely recognized in the Indian energy industry.

Throughout his career, Deepak has held key positions such as Chairman of Green Gas Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, reinforcing his deep engagement in India’s city gas distribution (CGD) initiatives. His extensive technical acumen, governance experience, and vision for sustainable energy transitions make him a strong choice to lead GAIL into its next phase of growth and decarbonization.

About GAIL (India) Limited

GAIL (India) Limited is the country’s leading integrated natural gas company, with operations spanning the entire energy value chain — from gas transmission and marketing to LPG, petrochemicals, city gas distribution, and renewable energy. It owns and operates a vast 16,421 km natural gas pipeline network, commanding approximately 65% of India’s natural gas transmission market and supplying nearly 47% of the country’s gas consumption.

The company is also a pioneer in petrochemical production, city gas distribution, and green energy. GAIL has set an ambitious goal to achieve Net Zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 and 35% Scope 3 reduction by 2040, driven by initiatives in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and carbon offsetting. With its strong domestic footprint and growing global LNG portfolio, GAIL continues to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s sustainable energy future.
