New Delhi, Delhi, India, November 2025 – The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has selected Deepak Gupta as the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Limited, India’s largest state-owned natural gas company. His appointment is now pending approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Deepak Gupta currently serves as Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Limited, where he has been instrumental in driving several strategic and capital-intensive initiatives. His leadership has been central to GAIL’s expansion in pipeline infrastructure, renewable energy integration, and major downstream projects, reinforcing the company’s position as India’s foremost player in the natural gas sector.
Alongside his role at GAIL, he holds multiple key positions in the energy ecosystem. He serves as Chairman of Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL) — a joint venture between GAIL, Coal India Limited (CIL), Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF), and Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL) — where he has overseen progress in one of India’s most ambitious coal gasification projects. He is also Director at South East Asia Gas Pipeline Company in Myanmar and Director at ONGC Petro additions Limited (OPaL), further contributing to regional energy collaboration and petrochemical diversification.
Before joining GAIL, Deepak Gupta had an illustrious 31-year career at Engineers India Limited (EIL), where he rose through the ranks to become Executive Director (Projects). During his tenure, he managed large-scale EPC projects, refinery expansions, and infrastructure development across India and abroad. His expertise in project execution, business strategy, EPC management, and leadership has been widely recognized in the Indian energy industry.
Throughout his career, Deepak has held key positions such as Chairman of Green Gas Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited, reinforcing his deep engagement in India’s city gas distribution (CGD) initiatives. His extensive technical acumen, governance experience, and vision for sustainable energy transitions make him a strong choice to lead GAIL into its next phase of growth and decarbonization.
