McLean & Company Releases Guide to Develop Responsible AI Guiding Principles

TweetPostShareWhatsapp

TORONTO – In the fast-paced evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), many organizations are grappling with the intricate maze of legislative, regulatory, and security requirements. According to a recent industry resource unveiled by McLean & Company, a global HR research and advisory firm, while the race to implement AI for competitive advantage is on, the establishment of AI strategy and governance often lags behind. HR, despite its pivotal role in fostering organizational culture and driving digital transformation, frequently finds itself excluded from strategic planning discussions.

The newly launched guide, titled “Develop Responsible AI Guiding Principles,” aims to assist organizational and HR leaders in crafting ethical AI frameworks to steer successful AI adoption while mitigating associated risks. Lisa Highfield, principal director of Human Resources Technology and Artificial Intelligence at McLean & Company, emphasized the urgency of implementing responsible AI guiding principles: “HR leaders have not only an opportunity but a responsibility to help prepare the organization for change and help secure the success of AI adoption as we progress into the future of work.”

According to McLean & Company, responsible AI entails designing, building, and deploying AI technologies with the aim of minimizing harm to individuals, organizations, and society. The firm outlines a user-friendly three-step process to help HR and organizational leaders in this endeavor, positioning responsible AI guiding principles as a cornerstone of a comprehensive AI strategy.

Step one involves establishing an AI governance committee to delve into organizational AI strategy and assess associated risks, including legal, regulatory, ethical, and compliance considerations. Subsequently, key inputs are gathered to inform the development of AI guiding principles tailored to the organization’s unique needs. The final step emphasizes active communication, iteration, and reinforcement of these principles across the organization.

McLean & Company underscores the importance of recognizing that responsible AI guiding principles are not static and must evolve in response to industry, regulatory, and organizational shifts. They advocate for the formation of cross-functional teams, including HR, to continually review and refine AI governance and guiding principles.

McLean & Company, renowned for its data-driven insights and best-practice methodologies, is a division of Info-Tech Research Group. They offer comprehensive resources, assessments, action plans, and training to equip organizations for present challenges and future readiness.
