Tata Motors, a leading name in the global automotive industry, has announced the appointment of Sitaram Kandi as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), effective April 1, 2024. Kandi, who previously led the human resources for Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicle businesses, is set to join the Tata Motors Executive Committee in his new capacity. This strategic move aligns with Tata Motors’ objective to strengthen its leadership team as the company continues to navigate the rapidly evolving automotive sector.
Kandi brings to the table an extensive background in human resources, with three decades of experience across various global corporations including Bosch, Monsanto, and General Electric. His tenure at General Electric, where he served in HR leadership roles culminating as Director HR for the Global Supply Chain in South Asia, has particularly prepared him for the challenges and opportunities in the automotive industry. Kandi’s expertise spans diverse aspects of HR and Industrial Relations, underscoring his capability to drive Tata Motors’ HR strategy forward.
The transition sees Kandi succeeding Ravindra Kumar G.P., who has been the CHRO of Tata Motors since 2018 and is set to undertake a new role within the Tata Group. This leadership change is part of a broader strategic initiative within the Tata Group, aimed at bolstering the group’s companies with seasoned leaders capable of guiding their respective organizations through periods of growth and transformation.
Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India (another Tata Group company), expressed his enthusiasm for the group’s HR leadership transitions, highlighting the critical role these leaders play in the ongoing transformation journeys of their respective companies. With Kandi’s extensive experience and proven track record in global companies, Tata Motors looks forward to leveraging his insights and leadership to enhance its HR practices, foster employee engagement, and drive organizational growth.
Kandi’s academic credentials include a graduation from the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies and a bachelor’s degree from Osmania University, further adding to his depth of knowledge and expertise in human resources management.
As Tata Motors continues to innovate and expand its footprint in the automotive sector, Kandi’s role will be pivotal in shaping the company’s human resources strategy, aligning it with the company’s growth objectives, and ensuring Tata Motors remains at the forefront of the industry.
