Newark, Delaware, United States, February 2026 — Sallie Mae has appointed Steve Turner as EVP, Chief Technology and Enablement Officer, reinforcing the organization’s focus on modern technology leadership, resilient operations, and data-led innovation aligned to its mission of powering confidence for students and families.
In his new role, Steve Turner will oversee technology and information architecture, delivery, innovation, data, and physical security, supporting the company’s priorities across platform reliability, scalable delivery, and technology-enabled growth.
In his new leadership mandate at Sallie Mae, Steve Turner steps into an enterprise-wide remit covering architecture, delivery, innovation, data, and security—bringing decades of experience across financial services, retail, digital commerce, and large-scale technology operations.
Prior to this move, he served at Bank of America as Managing Director, Head of Data, Analytics, Insights, and Marketing Technology, where he was the CIO and executive leader for data, analytics, insights and marketing technology across consumer, wealth management, business banking, and global commercial banking businesses.
Before Bank of America, he held senior digital leadership roles at Walgreens Boots Alliance, including SVP, Digital Operations, where he led the planning and delivery of next-generation digital capabilities to drive growth across the US and UK markets, with a focus spanning marketing (mass personalization), supply chain, digital commerce, and customer data.
Earlier, Steve Turner built a long tenure at Walgreens, serving as SVP and Chief Information Officer, accountable for consumer-facing IT operations, delivery, and innovation across the US business—including 10,000+ locations and digital properties. Prior to that, he held multiple leadership roles spanning infrastructure, operations, digital and mobile technology operations, analytics, and portfolio governance—initiating and leading foundational programs such as Walgreens’ first implementation of Hadoop (Big Data) and enterprise delivery transformations including agile adoption and 24×7 digital site operations.
His earlier experience includes technology leadership roles at Saveology.com as Chief Technology Officer, and at Orbitz, where he held multiple senior leadership positions including Director, Technology, Director, Quality and Development Technologies, and Director, Operations, with responsibilities spanning enterprise architecture, site speed and quality, operational reliability, technology execution models, and large-scale programs. He also served at Intuit, Inc. as Senior Manager, Network & Systems Engineering, managing customer-facing and back-office networks and security-aligned infrastructure operations. His early career includes consulting roles at BTG, Inc and Delfin Systems, Inc., and service in the US Navy as Cryptologic Technician, Maintenance (CTM1).
Steve Turner holds an MBA in Strategy, Management, and Marketing from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management (2009).
