Singapore, February 2026 – Varun Matta has started a new role as Managing Director, Co-Head Technology, Media, Telecom Investment Banking APAC at Citi, further strengthening the bank’s leadership bench across the high-growth TMT sector in Asia Pacific. In this expanded mandate, he will co-lead the regional TMT investment banking franchise, advising clients on mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, and strategic transactions.
Varun has been with Citi for over four years, previously serving as Managing Director & Head, Technology, Media & Telecom ASEAN and Managing Director & Head, Financial Sponsors Coverage ASEAN. During this period, he played a pivotal role in driving complex M&A and corporate finance transactions across Southeast Asia, strengthening Citi’s position as a trusted advisor in the region.
Prior to joining Citi, Varun held senior leadership roles at CIMB, where he served as Managing Director & Head, Mergers & Acquisitions and Financial Sponsors and Managing Director & Head, Telecoms, Media & Technology, Investment Banking. His earlier experience includes investment banking roles at Delta Partners, Credit Suisse, and Macquarie, where he advised on significant cross-border M&A transactions across telecoms, media, technology, and industrial sectors. He began his career in investment banking at DBS Bank.
Varun holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and a dual degree in Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, combining strong analytical foundations with deep sector expertise.
