Orange, California, United States – November 2024 – Steve Eckberg has joined CalOptima as Chief Human Resources Officer, where he will lead HR functions for Orange County’s largest health insurer. In this pivotal role, Steve will drive HR initiatives across CalOptima’s health insurance programs, supporting low-income individuals, seniors, and people with disabilities throughout the county.
Before CalOptima, Steve served as Interim Vice President of Human Resources at Western Dental & Orthodontics, overseeing employee relations, engagement, and total rewards. His HR expertise helped the organization enhance workplace culture and HR operations across its locations.
Prior to that, Steve held the position of Chief Human Resources Officer at Providence for St. Joseph Hospital in Orange. During his nearly four-year tenure, he managed HR strategy for the Southern California Region within the Providence St. Joseph Health System, playing a crucial role in organizational development and talent acquisition.
Steve also served as Executive Director of Human Resources at UCI Health, where he provided HR leadership for the medical center, ensuring robust HR practices aligned with the institution’s operational goals.
Earlier in his career, Steve was VP of Human Resources at Azusa Pacific University, leading HR strategy for the university. Additionally, he held senior roles at ECCU Credit Union, St. Joseph Health, and Mercyhealth, where he developed a strong foundation in HR management, executive compensation, and employee engagement across diverse sectors.
