Medtronic, a global leader in healthcare technology, has appointed Kari Steen as the new Vice President of Human Resources. Steen, with a comprehensive background spanning over two decades in the field, will begin her new role on April 09, 2024. Her appointment is set to strengthen Medtronic’s HR and labour relations strategies, aligning them with the company’s innovative and patient-centered approach.
Previously, Steen held a significant position as Vice President of the People Team at Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, from August 2022 until her recent transition. At Optum, she was instrumental in leading a 30-person team, enhancing talent strategies, and navigating complex organizational changes including mergers and acquisitions. Her role was pivotal in fostering a customer-centric corporate culture through strategic HR initiatives.
Before her tenure at Optum, Steen served as Vice President of Human Capital at UnitedHealthcare (UHC), where she was responsible for transforming HR functions to better support Medicare members through inclusion, diversity, and organizational design initiatives from March 2021 to August 2022.
Steen also has substantial experience as Senior Director of Human Capital at UHC, focusing on organizational design for government programs, and as Director of Human Capital at UHC, where she developed workforce strategies for various business groups.
Earlier in her career, Steen led as the Human Resources Director at Great Clips Inc., where she managed HR operations for over 4,200 salon locations, emphasizing payroll management, talent acquisition, and employee engagement strategies that supported significant corporate and franchise growth.
