South Africa, November 2024 – Ankit Gemawat has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Vedanta Zinc International (VZI). In his new role, Ankit will lead the commercial strategy for VZI’s diverse zinc operations in South Africa, Namibia, and Ireland, driving innovation and operational excellence.
Ankit most recently served as Head – Techno Commercial (Aluminium Business) & Special Projects at Adani Group, where he played a pivotal role in leading procurement strategies, vendor management, and contract negotiations for the aluminium business. During his tenure of nearly a year and a half, he significantly influenced the group’s operational and strategic projects.
Prior to this, he held the position of Head of Commercial at Adani Enterprises Limited, where he oversaw sourcing, procurement, and contract management for large-scale mining and technology contracts exceeding USD 2.7 billion. His leadership was instrumental in implementing cost-effective strategies, ensuring compliance, and fostering supplier relationships.
Earlier in his career, Ankit served as Head Procurement – Mining Services & Technology and Head – Project Monitoring & Commercial within the Adani Group. During his tenure, he contributed to reducing mining operation costs by over 50% and managed procurement operations across Indonesia, showcasing his expertise in operational optimization.
Before joining Adani Group, Ankit worked with Larsen & Toubro Limited, focusing on marketing, sales, and application engineering for the mining equipment business. He was responsible for strategic marketing, customer relationship management, and tendering processes for government projects, further establishing his credibility in the industry.
