Annalisa Bloodworth Appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Oglethorpe Power

Tucker, Ga., USA – November 2024 – The Oglethorpe Power Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Annalisa M. Bloodworth as the company’s new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective February 1, 2025. Bloodworth will succeed Mike Smith, the current President and CEO, who will retire in January 2025 after a distinguished 40-year career in the energy sector, including over a decade of leadership at Oglethorpe Power. Bloodworth, who has served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel since 2017, brings extensive experience and a strong commitment to the company’s mission.

Marshall Millwood, Oglethorpe Power Board Chairman, said, “The board engaged in a thorough search process, and we are confident in our selection of Annalisa Bloodworth as a President and CEO that embodies the values and vision of this company. Annalisa’s work representing Oglethorpe Power and our members is a testament to her integrity, ethical leadership, and alignment with the mission of Georgia’s electric cooperatives.”

Bloodworth joined Oglethorpe Power in 2010 and has held various roles, including Deputy General Counsel. Prior to Oglethorpe Power, she practiced law at Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP. Bloodworth holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Trinity University and a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law.

Reflecting on her appointment, Bloodworth expressed, “It is an honor and a privilege to have earned the opportunity to lead this distinguished company. I look forward to working alongside our Board of Directors, dedicated executive leadership team, and talented workforce to meet our members’ evolving and expanding energy needs, delivering reliable and affordable electricity to millions of Georgia homes and businesses.”

As Oglethorpe Power advances its energy strategy, Bloodworth steps into the CEO role during a period of substantial growth and change in the industry. In line with increasing electricity demands and the shift toward cleaner energy sources, the company has invested in emission-free nuclear energy, marked by the recent completion of the Vogtle expansion project, making it the largest generator of clean energy in the U.S. Over the last 15 years, Oglethorpe Power has diversified its generation portfolio by acquiring eight lower-carbon natural gas assets. The company recently announced plans to build two additional natural gas plants in Georgia: a combined-cycle facility in Monroe County and a simple-cycle combustion turbine unit at an existing Talbot County facility.

Millwood further remarked, “For the past 11 years, Oglethorpe Power has greatly benefited from Mike Smith’s effective leadership and strategic vision. Under Mike’s guidance, the company has achieved significant milestones and is well-positioned for continued success as Annalisa steps into the role of President and CEO. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we extend our deepest gratitude to Mike and look forward to partnering with Annalisa in the years to come.”
