MIAMI, April 12, 2024 — Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) announced today a significant leadership transition at its ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line, Silversea. Barbara Muckermann, after a 14-year tenure with Silversea, will be leaving to explore new opportunities. Bert Hernandez will take over as the new president of Silversea, effective immediately.
Barbara Muckermann, who joined Silversea in 2010 and has been instrumental in establishing the brand as a leader in the ultra-luxury cruise market, will be departing from her role.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Barbara since 2018 when Silversea joined Royal Caribbean Group, first in her role as chief marketing and commercial officer and later as brand president,” said Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. He credited her with significantly enhancing Silversea’s market position, highlighted by the launch of Silver Nova, a ship that marks a new era of luxury at sea.
Bert Hernandez, previously Senior Vice President, International at Royal Caribbean Group, is set to replace Muckermann. With over 20 years at Royal Caribbean and extensive experience in the industry, including roles as President of China Operations and COO of Azamara, Hernandez brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new position.
“With deep industry knowledge, experience in markets around the world, and past leadership of a luxury cruise line, I know Bert is well positioned to chart a smart course for Silversea’s continued growth and success,” Liberty added.
“I have long admired the wonderful brand that Barbara and team have built over 30 years and respect how they have been driven to create the most unique and memorable experiences in travel,” Hernandez said, expressing enthusiasm for his new role and the future of Silversea.
