Santiago, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile, April 2025 – Cristóbal Gómez has taken on a new leadership role as Chief Financial Officer at Compañía Minera Lomas Bayas, one of Chile’s leading copper producers. Based on-site in Chile, Cristóbal will oversee the company’s financial strategy and operations, contributing to long-term value creation through efficient capital management and sustainable growth initiatives.
Before his current appointment, Cristóbal served at Glencore for over six years, most recently as Regional Business Improvement & JV’s Lead for South America. In this capacity, he led M&A evaluations, capital project prioritization, and financial performance reviews across copper assets, while supporting digital transformation initiatives throughout the region. His expertise played a key role in enhancing operational efficiency and decision-making at the regional level.
Earlier at Glencore, Cristóbal worked in the Commercial Department, where he was responsible for financial modelling and oversight of major engineering projects in the copper mining space. His analysis supported multi-million-dollar decisions, demonstrating his strong grasp of finance, operations, and stakeholder engagement.
Cristóbal also held multiple roles at Glencore Copper in Mount Isa, Australia, including as Scheduling Engineer and Ventilation Engineer. He achieved cost-saving milestones through optimized planning and system redesigns in underground mining environments, even managing emergency systems for thousands of mine workers. His early career also included experience with CODELCO, where he developed investment proposals that directly impacted safety infrastructure.
He holds an MBA from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, reinforcing his profile as a globally trained mining and finance leader.
