Denver, Colorado, USA – November 2024 – Danford Kern has assumed the role of Chief People Officer at Civil Air Patrol (CAP). In this role, Danford will drive strategic HR initiatives to strengthen CAP’s workforce and support its mission in search and rescue, disaster relief, and aerospace education across the United States. His extensive experience in human capital management and leadership development will guide CAP’s people-focused goals, ensuring alignment with the organization’s operational and educational mandates.
Before joining Civil Air Patrol, Danford served as the Human Resources Policy Program Manager at Peace Corps, where he was instrumental in developing HR policies that enhanced operational effectiveness and employee satisfaction across the organization’s global operations. His role emphasized policy development, needs assessment, and solution implementation for the unique demands of Peace Corps staff and volunteers.
Prior to the Peace Corps, Danford spent several years with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command. In his role as Chief, Military Personnel Division, G1, he managed military and civilian personnel programs, focusing on talent strategy, retention, and succession planning. His work in this division established a robust HR infrastructure that supported the Army’s mission and personnel requirements across varied operational landscapes.
Danford’s experience also includes his role as Vice President of Organizational Development at Vibrant Credit Union, where he led strategic talent management, employee engagement initiatives, and development programs, strengthening the credit union’s organizational effectiveness and workforce satisfaction.
Earlier in his career, Danford held HR leadership roles at Cobham Mission Systems, including Plant Operations Training Manager and Air Refueling Aftermarket Value Stream Manager. His contributions in these positions advanced operational training and employee performance initiatives for Cobham’s defense and aerospace programs.
Civil Air Patrol (CAP), established in 1941, serves as the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. With a fleet of over 550 single-engine aircraft and a wide array of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), CAP performs crucial search and rescue operations, homeland security, and disaster relief. With over 56,000 members nationwide, CAP also plays a significant role in aerospace education, utilizing STEM resources and supporting its Cadet Program, which mentors over 23,000 young people annually. A leading force in community service and emergency response, CAP’s efforts continue to save lives and foster a new generation of leaders in aerospace and civil service.
