United States, January 2026 — Dr. Somnath Datta has been promoted to the role of Senior Director, Global Metrics & Reporting, Global Medical Affairs Function (GMAF) at Johnson & Johnson, marking a significant leadership milestone in his global pharmaceutical and healthcare transformation journey. In this role, he is redefining how Medical Affairs impact is measured, translated into insight and used to drive strategic decision-making across the enterprise.
In his current role at Johnson & Johnson, Dr. Datta leads the global metrics and reporting agenda for Medical Affairs, shaping enterprise-wide frameworks that make scientific and patient impact visible, comparable and decision-relevant. His mandate focuses on transforming data into insight, insight into action and action into sustained business and patient outcomes.
Immediately prior, he served as Director, Medical Affairs Operations Excellence in Tokyo, where he led major transformation programs across Medical Information, Medical Intelligence and Digital Engagement, Analytics & Capability groups. He introduced AI/ML and GenAI-driven efficiencies, omnichannel engagement models, CRM modernization and analytics benchmarking to strengthen readiness for upcoming product launches.
Earlier at Johnson & Johnson in India, he was Associate Director & Head of Commercial Excellence, where he led analytics, digital marketing, sales force effectiveness and learning programs. His work earned industry awards for analytics automation, AI-based attrition prediction models and digital engagement transformation.
Before joining J&J, Dr. Datta held senior leadership roles at IQVIA and Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he led large commercial analytics portfolios, blockbuster brand launches and multi-market commercialization strategies across Asia.
Dr. Datta holds an MBA in Marketing & Strategy from the Indian School of Business and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Maulana Azad Medical College.
