North East, England, United Kingdom, September 2025 – Iain Herdman has been elevated to Group Director People & Organisational Development at Karbon Homes. In this role, he will oversee the organisation’s people strategy, workforce development, and organisational culture, further supporting Karbon’s mission of building strong, sustainable communities.
Iain has been with Karbon Homes for six years, where he most recently served as Assistant Director (People & OD). During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing people strategy, organisational design, and workforce planning, contributing to the organisation’s growth and service excellence across the North East and Yorkshire.
Prior to joining Karbon Homes, Iain served as Corporate Director (HR & Estates) at New College Durham Academies Trust. Over nearly eight years, he led HR and estates management, driving operational improvements and strengthening people frameworks across the Trust.
Earlier, Iain worked as Human Resources Manager at Durham County Council, where he guided HR operations, supported service delivery, and implemented workforce policies to meet public sector needs.
He also held HR generalist roles at Durham University and the University of Sunderland, where he gained strong foundations in people operations, employee relations, and organisational support.
Iain began his HR career at Northern Rock, serving in HR generalist positions for more than six years, which provided him with early exposure to organisational development, talent support, and employee engagement practices.
