Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, July 2025 – Karey Powers has been elevated to the role of Chief Human Resources Officer at Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System. In her new position, Karey will lead the HR function for one of the most prestigious academic health systems in the United States, driving strategic initiatives to support talent development, employee engagement, and organizational culture across the system.
Karey has been with Penn Medicine for over three years. Prior to this promotion, she served as Associate Chief Human Resources Officer, playing a critical role in shaping HR strategy, supporting leadership development, and strengthening organizational capabilities across the health system.
Before returning to Penn Medicine, Karey was Manager, Human Resources at Main Line Health, where she led HR initiatives in a fast-paced healthcare environment. She also worked as Human Resources Specialist at Einstein Healthcare Network, contributing to talent management and HR operations across hospital functions.
Karey’s earlier tenure at Penn Medicine included a role as Human Resources Generalist, Corporate Services, providing HR solutions to central support functions. Prior to her healthcare leadership journey, she spent over 19 years at Wegmans Food Markets, growing through various roles from HR Administrative Assistant to Employee Representative, where she led staffing, onboarding, compliance, and performance processes, including several new market expansions across Southeastern Pennsylvania.
