Camden, New Jersey, United States, April 2025 – Lori Sutton has been appointed as the Chief Human Resources Officer at American Water, bringing over two decades of experience in human capital management, inclusion, and organizational transformation to the role. In her new capacity, Lori will lead the development and execution of American Water’s HR strategy, supporting its mission to deliver safe, clean, and reliable water services while fostering an inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
Lori has served American Water in a progressive series of leadership roles over the past two years, most recently as Chief Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Officer and Senior Vice President of Talent Management, where she was instrumental in advancing workforce equity, talent strategy, and cultural transformation across the organization. Her earlier roles included Vice President of Talent Acquisition and Chief Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Officer, positioning her as a core leader in shaping people-centered initiatives at American Water.
Prior to joining American Water, Lori served as Global Head of Inclusion, Diversity & Culture at Alcoa, where she oversaw enterprise-wide diversity strategies and drove inclusion outcomes globally. Before that, she held key HR leadership positions at Berry Global, including Global Head of DEI and Director of Corporate HR, leading both talent acquisition and D&I initiatives with global impact.
Lori’s longest tenure was with Vectren, where she served for over 13 years across multiple roles, including Director of Diversity, Inclusion & Human Equity. There, she led a landmark three-year organizational transformation project involving over 90 employees, embedding human equity across business operations. Her early career included financial and analytical roles at St. Mary’s Health System, where she began building her foundation in strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making.
