New Jersey, United States – Phathom Pharmaceuticals is thrilled to announce the appointment of Paul Cocja as the new Chief People Officer. As of April 2024, Cocja has taken up his role at the company’s headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey. With more than three decades of extensive experience in human resources within the pharmaceutical sector, Cocja is well-prepared to lead Phathom’s human resources strategy through its next phase of growth and innovation.
Before joining Phathom Pharmaceuticals, Cocja served as Vice President, Head of Human Resources US at Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation, where he played a critical role from March 2018 to April 2024. His leadership in Novartis’ US operations was marked by significant advancements in HR practices and employee engagement strategies.
Prior to his tenure at Novartis, Cocja was the Vice President of Human Resources at Celgene from March 2010 to March 2018. During his time at Celgene, he was instrumental in overseeing HR initiatives that supported the company’s rapid growth and global expansion. His strategic HR leadership helped Celgene strengthen its position as a leader in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Earlier in his career, Cocja held several senior HR roles at major pharmaceutical companies, including Schering-Plough (now part of Merck), where he was the Head of HR for Europe II, covering the Middle East and Africa, and various director-level positions at Allianz/Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and Chubb Group of Insurance Companies.
