Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, April 2025 — Rajeev Kher, Independent Director at Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd., has been named as the new Chairperson of the Board following a decision at the Board meeting held on April 29, 2025, subject to regulatory approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
Bringing with him more than 40 years of illustrious experience in international trade, industrial development, and regulatory governance, Kher previously served as Commerce Secretary to the Government of India and held senior roles in the Ministries of Environment and Commerce. His distinguished career also includes his tenure at the Competition Appellate Tribunal and as Distinguished Fellow at the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), where he focused on global trade and sustainability policies.
Upon his appointment, Kher expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to the new role, stating his intent to uphold Star Health’s pioneering legacy in the health insurance sector. He emphasized the importance of strengthening governance and driving inclusive, long-term value creation for all stakeholders.
