Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, July 2025 — Sergey Denisov has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Nayara Energy, marking a significant leadership transition at the Rosneft-backed energy company. With over two decades of experience in the downstream energy sector and a deep understanding of Nayara’s strategic priorities, Denisov steps into the role at a critical juncture for the company and the industry.
Prior to this elevation, Denisov served as Chief Development Officer at Nayara Energy, where he played a key role in executing major capital projects, including the expansion of the Vadinar refinery and feasibility studies for new ventures worth over $20 billion. His leadership was instrumental in advancing complex infrastructure initiatives and driving operational excellence across the company’s core facilities.
Before joining Nayara in 2017, Denisov held various senior roles at BP, including Downstream Director and Head of Shareholder Office, where he was responsible for strategic collaboration between BP and Rosneft. He also served as a Strategy Advisor in London, offering competitive insights that shaped BP’s global downstream direction. Earlier, Denisov spent several years with TNK-BP, overseeing large-scale refinery operations in Russia and Ukraine, and started his career at Sidanco, leading critical refinery modernization projects.
Denisov’s appointment comes at a time when Nayara Energy is poised to navigate complex geopolitical challenges and expand its footprint in the Indian market. As CEO, he will oversee operations of the Vadinar refinery—India’s second-largest single-site refinery—and a retail network exceeding 6,000 fuel outlets across the country.
