Hyderabad, Telangana, India, November 2025 – Coromandel International Limited, part of the Murugappa Group, has appointed Sharad Kalghatgi as Group Vice President – Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) and Sustainability. In his new role, he will lead the enterprise-wide EHS and sustainability agenda, strengthening Coromandel’s safety culture, advancing ESG performance, and embedding sustainable practices across its manufacturing sites, crop protection operations, and extensive rural retail network. With over two decades of specialist experience in EHS and sustainability leadership across global organisations, he brings deep expertise in safety transformation, regulatory governance, and responsible growth.
Before joining Coromandel International Limited, Sharad Kalghatgi served as Vice President – ESG & HS at the Jubilant Bhartia Group for close to two years. In this role, he was responsible for health & safety and ESG, leading safety culture transformation, improving ESG metrics and ratings, and engaging closely with boards and senior stakeholders on internal and external sustainability expectations. His work focused on strengthening governance, embedding robust policies, and driving structured improvements in risk mitigation and performance.
Prior to Jubilant, he held the role of EVP – ESG, EHS&S, Operational Excellence and Engineering at Sajjan India Ltd / UPL Limited for nearly two years. Here, he led engineering, operational excellence, environment, occupational health, safety and sustainability across the enterprise. His mandate included building strong mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil engineering disciplines anchored in principles of operational excellence, while driving strategies on asset integrity, process safety management, reliability-centred maintenance, and leading digitisation and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Earlier, Sharad was Global Vice President & Group Head – EHS & Sustainability at Cipla Limited for a little over two years, where he led environment, health, safety and sustainability for the company and its global subsidiaries. In this global leadership remit, he focused on strengthening HSE governance, performance improvement, and stakeholder engagement across multiple geographies, reinforcing Cipla’s commitment to responsible operations and patient-centric sustainability.
A significant part of his career was with Mondelēz International, where over around five years he progressed through key EHS and sustainability leadership roles, including India HSE & Sustainability Head and later Head of India HSE – Sustainability & Commercial HSE for Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA). In these positions, he led HSE and sustainability across manufacturing and commercial operations in India, and subsequently across offices, warehouses, R&D centres, sales and commercial sites in AMEA, helping to standardise global practices while keeping local realities in view.
In his earlier years, Sharad built strong technical foundations in process safety and engineering across organisations such as Shell, AstraZeneca and Ciba. At Shell, he spent over six years in progressively responsible roles in process safety, technology evaluation and continuous improvement, becoming a subject matter expert in areas like reactive relief, process simulations and global governance. At AstraZeneca, he set up a process safety lab and team at the Bangalore R&D centre, building specialist capabilities in powder safety testing and analysis. At Ciba, he worked across technology transfer, scale-up, operations and process safety labs, gaining hands-on experience in process simulation and lab-scale to plant-scale transitions. This strong technical and operational grounding has significantly shaped his later leadership in EHS, ESG and sustainability.
