Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), a leading bottler in the continent with a significant presence across multiple African countries, has recently appointed Simon Kaheru as the new Head of Public Policy and Partnerships for its operations in Uganda. This strategic move aligns with the company’s commitment to enhancing its engagement with public policy and fostering partnerships that contribute to sustainable development in Uganda and beyond.
Simon Kaheru, with a commendable track record in public affairs and communications, has been pivotal in driving Coca-Cola Beverages Africa’s sustainability initiatives. Under his leadership, CCBA has expanded its “World Without Waste” partnerships in Uganda, collaborating with local recycling companies to increase the collection and recycling of plastic waste. These initiatives are part of the global Coca-Cola Company’s commitment to collecting and recycling the equivalent of every bottle it sells by 2030, aiming to make packaging more recyclable and supporting the circular economy.
Kaheru’s appointment comes at a crucial time when Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is intensifying its efforts to address environmental challenges, particularly plastic pollution. His role will involve leading strategies that ensure responsible manufacturing, distribution, and sale of beverages while protecting the environment through proactive recycling efforts. The company’s Plastic Recycling Industries initiative, as highlighted by Kaheru, emphasizes the importance of collaboration and community engagement in achieving 100% collection and recycling of products sold.
Coca-Cola Beverages Africa’s commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices is further evidenced by its recent announcement of plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), aiming to become an independent, Africa-focused business. This move underscores the company’s long-term commitment to the African continent and its belief in the potential for growth and development within the region.
