London, UK – Stephen Lochhead joins Sainsbury’s as the Group Head of Talent Capability & Development, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career in the field of human resources and talent management. Lochhead brings to Sainsbury’s an extensive background, characterized by impactful leadership roles across several global organizations.

Before joining Sainsbury’s, Lochhead held the position of Senior Vice President – Global Talent at Expedia Group, where he spearheaded the Global Talent Acquisition function from October 2019 to July 2023. His role encompassed oversight of Early Careers, Professional, Executive, and Contingent Hiring, demonstrating a commitment to both internal and external talent development.

Lochhead’s professional journey also includes significant contributions to Standard Chartered Bank as Managing Director – Global Head of Talent, where he managed all aspects of Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, and Diversity & Inclusion at a global level from August 2018 to October 2019. His expertise further extends to roles at Standard Life Aberdeen, Unilever, AstraZeneca, Lloyds Banking Group, Walmart, and Arthur Andersen & Co., each position underscoring his capabilities in organizational development, leadership assessment, and global talent management.

At Sainsbury’s, Lochhead reports directly to the Chief People Officer and is a key member of the People Leadership team. His responsibilities are wide-ranging, encompassing Talent & Performance, Talent Acquisition, People Development, Colleague Engagement, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Wellbeing. This role leverages Lochhead’s profound skills in Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI), Restructuring, Performance Management, and various other areas essential for fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and productive workplace.
