RP Sanjiv Goenka Group appoints Subir Verma as Executive Director & CHRO – Power Business.
This role signifies a new chapter for Verma, where he brings over two decades of experience in HR leadership and strategic management to one of India’s leading conglomerates.
Verma’s career trajectory includes an impressive tenure at Tata Power, where he held various key positions, culminating as the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Cluster. His work at Tata Power was characterized by strategic HR leadership, organizational development, and driving human capital initiatives across various sectors, including power generation, transmission, and distribution.
Before his extensive service with the Tata Group, Verma’s career began at Aptech in 1998, followed by significant roles at Reliance, including senior manager – HR and vertical HR head. His expertise was further honed at Reliance Communications and Augere India, showcasing his ability to lead HR functions in dynamic and challenging environments.
Verma’s academic credentials include being an alumnus of the Xavier Institute of Management, holding a certification as a happiness coach from the University of California, Berkeley, and completing an advanced management programme from IIM-Ahmedabad. Throughout his career, Verma has been recognized for his contributions to the field of HR with several awards, including HR Leader of People’s Choice by Business World in 2020 and CHRO of the Year 2019 by the World HR Forum.
In his new role at the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, Verma is expected to leverage his vast experience and insights to steer the power business’s HR strategies, aligning them with its vision for growth and excellence. His appointment reflects the group’s commitment to investing in leadership that can drive transformation and foster a culture of innovation and sustainability in the power sector.

He holds an Engineering degree and a Management Diploma from XIMB and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He is also certified as a Benefit Professional by AON and a Certified Happiness Officer by the Berkeley Institute of Well-Being, US.
His involvement extends beyond the corporate sphere. He serves on the advisory committee of CII, the Advisory board of Nehru Science Center, Start India’s committee and a few academic universities and colleges.
