Simon Graaff Appointed as Chief Technology Officer at Equator Energy

Nairobi, Kenya, September 2025 – Equator Energy, East Africa’s leading commercial and industrial solar operator, has appointed Simon Graaff as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). In his new role, Graaff will drive technology strategy, project execution, and innovation in solar energy solutions, further strengthening Equator Energy’s leadership in the renewable energy sector.

Simon most recently worked with IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture in Athi River, Kenya, as a Commissioning Supervisor, where he oversaw large-scale engineering and commissioning projects. His contributions ensured the successful execution of complex industrial projects while adhering to stringent quality and safety standards.

Before that, he served as Head of Engineering at Ariya Finergy Holdings Limited, where he spent more than three years leading renewable energy engineering projects in Kenya. His work focused on project management, technical delivery, and advancing sustainable power solutions across the region.

Earlier, Simon was the General Manager at Sustainable Power Solutions Kenya, where he led business operations and renewable energy projects for over three years. He had previously worked as a Project Engineer with Sustainable Power Solutions (Pty) Ltd., gaining extensive experience in solar project engineering and delivery.

Simon’s career began with roles in engineering and project management, including positions as Project Manager at DCD Group, Facilities Planning Engineer at I-WEC, and Senior Maintenance Manager at Toyota South Africa, where he developed expertise in plant operations, maintenance management, and large-scale engineering projects. He also pursued a Master’s degree at Stellenbosch University, where he researched innovative ocean current energy converters, strengthening his academic and technical foundations in renewable energy.
