Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 2025 — Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata) has announced the appointment of Farid Basir as its new Chief Human Resources Officer, marking another significant chapter in the career of one of Malaysia’s most respected HR leaders. With an accomplished track record spanning over three decades across banking, telecommunications, and FMCG sectors, Farid brings transformative leadership experience that will be instrumental in strengthening Cahya Mata’s human capital and organizational culture across its global operations.
Before joining Cahya Mata, Farid served as Chief People Officer at MBSB Bank Berhad, where he successfully led a large-scale people and culture transformation during the bank’s historic post-merger integration with MIDF. Under his leadership, the bank harmonized its people ecosystem, redefined its leadership and learning architecture, and established a unified culture anchored on the values of fairness, inclusivity, and growth under the FLIGHT26 strategy.
Earlier, Farid held the position of Chief Human Capital Officer at Telekom Malaysia, where he spearheaded digital HR transformation and employee engagement initiatives to support the company’s shift toward becoming a future-ready, agile organization. Prior to that, he was Chief Human Capital Officer at Bank Rakyat Malaysia, where he developed comprehensive HR frameworks in succession planning, talent management, and organizational performance management aligned with strategic business goals.
Farid’s global career includes over a decade at Nestlé, where he held senior HR roles across Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and South Africa, focusing on leadership development, total rewards, and organizational design. He also served with organizations such as Etiqa Insurance & Takaful, ReidGroup, and Telekom Malaysia, where he began his career and rose through multiple human resource leadership roles.
At Cahya Mata, Farid will lead the group’s human resources function across 40 operating companies, driving initiatives in leadership development, succession planning, organizational agility, and culture transformation. His focus will be on aligning HR strategy with Cahya Mata’s growth ambitions, advancing its commitment to sustainability, and fostering a culture of excellence across its multinational operations.
