Joe Boyce Joins Optum as Executive Director – AI Transformation

Greater Phoenix Area, Arizona, United States, July 2026 — Optum has appointed Joe Boyce as Executive Director – AI Transformation, strengthening its leadership team as it accelerates the adoption of artificial intelligence to transform healthcare delivery, operational excellence, and patient outcomes.

In his new role, Joe will lead AI transformation initiatives across the organization, driving the integration of AI-powered capabilities into business operations, healthcare services, and enterprise transformation programs. He will work closely with business and technology leaders to identify opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and deliver better experiences for patients, providers, and customers.

Prior to joining Optum, Joe served as Vice President, Managed Services – Service Delivery at Altera Digital Health, where he led large-scale managed services operations, overseeing service delivery, operational excellence, customer success, and strategic transformation initiatives across healthcare technology environments.

Earlier, he held the role of Area Vice President, Managed Services – West, International & Sales Operations at Altera Digital Health, supporting global service operations and business growth initiatives.

Before that, Joe spent more than a decade with Allscripts, holding several senior leadership roles including Area Vice President – Managed Services, Project Manager, Area Vice President – Professional Services Asia, and Director, Development. During this period, he led global healthcare technology implementations, managed international service delivery teams, and supported enterprise digital transformation programs across North America and Asia-Pacific.

Earlier in his career, Joe held consulting and program leadership positions with SMS Management & Technology, NSW Health, RTA, iSOFT, and Auckland District Health Board, building extensive expertise across healthcare technology, digital transformation, enterprise program management, IT operations, managed services, and large-scale technology implementation.

With more than two decades of leadership experience spanning healthcare technology, enterprise transformation, managed services, and digital innovation, Joe brings a strong combination of operational leadership and technology expertise that will support Optum’s next phase of AI-driven transformation.
