Mumbai, Maharashtra, India – October 2024 – Gopi Thangavel has been named as the new Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Larsen & Toubro. In this role, Thangavel will be responsible for leading the company’s IT strategy, digital transformation, and infrastructure development across its global operations. His strategic expertise will be pivotal in supporting L&T’s continued growth and innovation.
Before joining Larsen & Toubro, Gopi Thangavel spent more than six years at Reliance Industries Limited, where he served as Senior Vice President and Vice President, managing enterprise infrastructure across multiple sectors including hydrocarbons, retail, and digital services. He led large-scale IT infrastructure operations, cloud integration, global networks, and significant cost optimization efforts.
Prior to his tenure at Reliance, he was the Director of Information Technology Infrastructure at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories for nearly three years, managing IT infrastructure across 37 countries. His work focused on global data center management, regulatory compliance, and information security, alongside major projects like SAP migration and IT outsourcing.
Earlier, Thangavel was the Head of Information Technology at Wipro Limited for over two years, overseeing IT operations, data centers, and client management across multiple business segments. He successfully led initiatives in cost reduction, automation, and service standardization.
He also held a key position as Director and Head of IT Department at Agility GIL Shared Services, where he played a significant role in setting up IT infrastructure and back-office operations in Chennai, managing global data centers, and supporting disaster recovery processes.
