London, United Kingdom, April 2026 — bp has appointed Carol Howle as deputy CEO, expanding her responsibilities alongside her current leadership of supply, trading and shipping. In her new role, she will oversee the company’s portfolio review and long-term strategy, with the strategy and sustainability team now reporting to her. This appointment marks an important leadership move for bp as it continues to navigate business transformation and its long-term energy strategy.
Before taking on this expanded responsibility, Carol Howle served as EVP supply, trading & shipping at bp. Prior to that, she held several senior leadership roles within the company, including CEO BP Shipping / COO Global Oil, Integrated Supply & Trading, Head of Group Chief Executive’s Office, Head of Supply & Trading – Global Oil Europe & Finance, COO NGLs, and Head of Executive Office, Integrated Supply & Trading at BP Oil International Ltd. Earlier in her career, she also held roles at BP in Singapore and London, including Trading Manager – LPG & Chemicals, Operations Manager, Commercial Manager, and positions within the Commercial Team. Her journey reflects a long and distinguished leadership career across trading, operations, commercial management, and executive office leadership.
With more than two decades of broad energy experience, Carol Howle has built deep expertise across finance, operations, supply, and trading. Her leadership profile has been shaped by international experience across locations including London, Houston, Chicago, and Singapore, and she has also worked for Shell and Rhein Oel Ltd earlier in her career. She is also a Chartered Management Accountant. This wide-ranging experience positions her strongly to support bp’s strategic direction in her new role as deputy CEO.
Her appointment reflects bp’s confidence in her ability to help shape the company’s long-term priorities while continuing to build on her leadership of one of its most critical business areas.
