Dakar, Senegal, November 2024 – Gilchrist Koutob has been appointed as Managing Director of Africa Services at Mercy Ships. In this role, Gilchrist will lead the development and realization of an African Support Centre and provide strategic vision and operational support across Mercy Ships’ functions throughout Africa. His responsibilities also include fostering partnerships with NGOs, increasing volunteer recruitment across the continent, and aligning programmatic strategies with Mercy Ships’ global objectives.
Gilchrist has been a part of Mercy Ships for over a year, contributing significantly in various leadership roles. Before this appointment, he served as Regional Director of Operations and Country Director for Madagascar. In these roles, he established diplomatic relations, managed strategic programmatic planning, and oversaw the operational strategies for Mercy Ships’ regional office and in-country functions.
Prior to Mercy Ships, Gilchrist held a distinguished tenure at CBN Afrique, where he served as Regional Director for over three years. He spearheaded impactful humanitarian initiatives across 10 countries, including life-saving surgeries, agricultural projects, and disaster relief efforts. His leadership also secured diplomatic status for the organization in Senegal, enabling tax-exempt operations.
Earlier in his career, Gilchrist worked as Director of Operations and Communications, Partner Relations, and Fundraising Executive at CBN Afrique, where he enhanced fundraising initiatives, established donor relationships, and managed complex cross-functional operations.
