In this role, Gloria will be responsible for overseeing and driving the HR strategy for DESRI (D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments), ensuring the organization attracts, retains, and nurtures top talent in the renewable energy sector. With her vast experience in HR leadership, she will focus on fostering a dynamic workplace culture, promoting talent development, and enhancing employee engagement as DESRI continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio.
Prior to joining The D. E. Shaw Group, Gloria Basem served as Global Chief People Officer at Cover Genius, where she was instrumental in increasing the company’s headcount by 47% and optimizing the People Team. She launched new executive compensation programs, established an LTI equity program, and revamped onboarding and talent development processes.
Before Cover Genius, Gloria was the Chief People Officer at Stash, a fintech company, where she played a pivotal role in scaling the company by 80%. Her efforts led to a significant reduction in employee attrition by 40% and improved representation and inclusion through DEI initiatives. She also developed leadership programs that enhanced organizational performance.
Gloria also worked as an Interim Chief People Officer for several organizations, including Avon, Planned Parenthood, and Cerberus Capital Management, where she spearheaded change management initiatives and HR transformations. She successfully integrated multiple affiliates and revamped HR operations to drive efficiency and alignment with business goals.
At MediaMath, Gloria was the Chief People Officer, where she transformed the recruitment process and talent management strategy, reducing turnover and improving Glassdoor ratings. She also revamped the company’s performance management and compensation planning, aligning them with organizational goals.
Earlier in her career, she held senior HR leadership roles at ERM (Environmental Resources Management), Omnicom’s The CDM Group, and S&P Global, where she consistently led HR strategies that focused on leadership development, organizational restructuring, and employee engagement.
