New York, United States, December 2025— Ida Liu has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Private Bank, effective 5 January 2026. The appointment marks a significant leadership transition for HSBC’s private banking business as it continues to strengthen its global wealth management franchise serving ultra-high net worth (UHNW) individuals and multi-generational families.
A globally recognised private banking leader and trusted advisor, Ida Liu brings more than 25 years of international experience across wealth management, strategic advisory, and large-scale business transformation. She is widely known for building and leading high-performing global franchises catering to some of the world’s most sophisticated clients.
Prior to joining HSBC Private Bank, Ida Liu spent over eighteen years at Citigroup, where she most recently served as Global Head of Citi Private Bank. In this role, she led the bank’s worldwide private banking operations, driving growth, client engagement, and strategic transformation across regions.
During her tenure at Citi, she held several senior leadership roles including Head of Citi Private Bank North America, Head of Citi Private Bank New York, and Head of Citi Private Bank Asian Clients Group. Earlier, she led the Fashion, Media & Entertainment Group as Senior Private Banker, reflecting her ability to build specialised advisory platforms for niche and complex client segments.
Before transitioning into private banking, Ida Liu began her career in investment banking, working at Merrill Lynch and BT Wolfensohn, where she advised on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance transactions. She also gained industry experience as a Fashion Executive at Vivienne Tam, providing her with a unique cross-sector perspective that has informed her client-centric leadership approach.
