Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, January 2025 – James Morgan has taken on the role of Chief Financial Officer at RMIT University, continuing his impactful career in strategic finance and leadership. With nearly four years at RMIT and extensive prior experience in the telecommunications and finance sectors, James brings deep expertise to advance the university’s financial strategy and operational excellence.
James has been with RMIT University since 2021, most recently serving as Deputy CFO – Strategic Finance, where he played a pivotal role in shaping financial strategies to support the university’s growth and operational goals. He also serves as a Board Member for RMIT Training, further contributing to RMIT’s strategic endeavors.

Prior to RMIT, James had a long and successful tenure at Telstra, where he held several senior financial roles over 14 years. As Networks & IT Finance Executive (CFO) and InfraCo Finance Executive (CFO), he managed extensive infrastructure assets, implemented critical accounting standards, and drove financial innovations.
James also held roles such as Telstra Wholesale Finance Director and Retail Planning & Analysis Manager, where he led teams, streamlined operations, and drove significant productivity improvements. Earlier in his career, he worked with BT Group in the UK, overseeing key finance operations in consumer and network services. He began his career at PwC, where he honed his skills as a Transaction Services Specialist and Senior Auditor.
