Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, December 2024 – Janet Hughes has taken on the role of Vice President, People at MEC. In this position, Janet will oversee the company’s human resources strategies, driving employee engagement, fostering a dynamic workplace culture, and supporting MEC’s commitment to outdoor adventure and community initiatives.
Janet brings over 20 years of leadership experience in human resources. Before stepping into her current role, she served as Senior Director – People at MEC for 11 months, where she led HR initiatives that aligned with MEC’s mission of fostering an active and engaged workforce. Earlier, Janet held the position of Senior Director of Human Resources, contributing to significant organizational improvements during her tenure.

Prior to joining MEC, Janet spent nearly 13 years at the Vancouver Film School, where she held roles including Director of Human Resources and Manager, Human Resources. Her contributions included creating and implementing HR policies that enhanced employee satisfaction and retention.
Janet’s professional journey also includes serving as an Academic Affairs Supervisor at the University of Phoenix, where she honed her skills in leadership and employee development. Additionally, she has demonstrated her commitment to mentorship through roles as a Business Mentor at Beedie School of Business at SFU and an HR Mentor and Coach at BC HRMA.
