Seattle, Washington, United States, June 2024 – Akilah Lewis has been appointed as the new Sr. Director, Corporate Human Resources at Weyerhaeuser. With over eleven years of dedicated service at Weyerhaeuser, Akilah brings extensive experience in human resources management to her new role.

Akilah has been with Weyerhaeuser for over eleven years, showcasing a robust commitment to the organization and its values. Most recently, she served as the Region HR Manager for the Gulf South region, where she managed HR operations and strategies for seven years and five months. Her skills in HR management, strategic planning, and employee relations have been critical in maintaining a positive work environment.

Before her role as Region HR Manager, Akilah held multiple positions within Weyerhaeuser, including Human Resources Director – Engineered Wood Products & Raw Materials from December 2020 to June 2024, and Human Resources Manager from March 2013 to June 2024. In these roles, she was instrumental in driving HR initiatives, managing employee performance, and overseeing HR operations.

Prior to joining Weyerhaeuser, Akilah worked as a Human Resources Manager at Performance Food Group in Austell, GA, from June 2012 to March 2013. She managed HR functions, safety, and training programs, contributing significantly to the company’s operational efficiency.

Akilah’s HR journey began at Emser Tile as an HR Coordinator from April 2006 to June 2008. She then progressed to roles such as Human Resources Generalist at xpedx from July 2008 to July 2011, and Human Resources, Safety and Training Manager at International Paper in Oxnard, CA, from June 2011 to September 2012.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
