Germany, March 2026 — Katrien Lippens has taken on the role of Senior Vice President Procurement & Supply Management at thyssenkrupp rothe erde. This new appointment marks an important step in her accomplished leadership journey across procurement, supply chain, strategy, marketing, and business development. With deep experience in managing large global spend portfolios, strengthening supply security, and driving international category strategies, she is well positioned to contribute to the company’s continued growth and operational excellence.
Before joining thyssenkrupp rothe erde, Katrien Lippens served as VP Supply Chain and Procurement at Sibelco Group in Antwerp, Flemish Region, Belgium. In that role, she led the supply chain and procurement division with a yearly spend of more than €1 billion. Her remit covered procurement categories such as utilities, chemicals, MRO, mining services, mobile equipment, packaging, and professional services, along with logistics across dry bulk shipping, road, rail, and container transport. She managed an international team and defined and executed policy and category strategies through lean, effective, and automated processes designed to reduce the cost to serve.
A major part of her professional journey was built at Bekaert, where she spent more than two decades in a range of senior roles. Most recently there, she served as VP Global Purchasing Steel Wire Rod, where she was responsible for the global procurement and strategy of steel wire rod with a spend of over €1 billion per year. During that time, she delivered significant savings and helped ensure security of supply during the pandemic through strategic collaborations with major steel companies worldwide.
Earlier at Bekaert, she was VP Strategy and Marketing Steel Rubber Reinforcement, where she led sales and marketing strategy for a business with revenues of around €2 billion per year. In this role, she worked closely with the international tire industry while managing international trade flows and strategic investment growth projects. Before that, she served as Global Market Manager Steel Wire Solutions and Global Purchasing Manager, strengthening her expertise across global markets, strategic sourcing, steel wire rod procurement, zinc and lead procurement, and worldwide supplier networks.
At the beginning of her career, Katrien Lippens worked in R&D and Business Development at Bekaert and also served as a Research Assistant at Universiteit Gent, where she was involved in stainless steel development in collaboration with ALZ (Arcelor, Genk, Belgium). These early roles helped shape her strong technical and commercial foundation, which has since evolved into a distinguished international leadership career across procurement and supply management.
With a career spanning procurement leadership, global sourcing, supply chain optimization, strategy, and business development, Katrien Lippens brings a rich and highly relevant background to her new role at thyssenkrupp rothe erde.
