Fort Stewart, Georgia, United States, November 2025 – Krystal A. Merchan has taken on the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (Division G1) at 3ID and Fort Stewart, where she will lead HR operations supporting over 25,000 Soldiers and their families. In this prestigious role, she will serve as the principal HR advisor to the Senior Mission Commander, offering strategic direction on personnel, readiness, and talent management across the installation.
Prior to this role, Krystal Merchan served in the U.S. Army for over 18 years, holding numerous HR leadership positions such as Division HR Plans and Operations Officer, Chief of Career Management Field Team, and Program Manager for the Assignment Satisfaction Key – Enlisted Module. Her extensive service includes assignments in both strategic and operational HR roles, including deployments and assignments across Afghanistan and various command levels within the Army.
Between 2019 and 2022, she also held the role of Chief Operating Officer and Charter Member at Urban Dream Initiative, a nonprofit focused on community development. In this capacity, she contributed to program strategy and volunteer initiatives, reflecting her strong commitment to social impact alongside her military HR career.
Krystal Merchan holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Area Studies from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she was active in varsity athletics and multiple student organizations. She also earned a Master of Arts in Diplomacy from Norwich University, further deepening her strategic and global perspective in leadership and personnel management.
