London, United Kingdom, February 2026 — Aviva has announced the appointment of Chris Cochrane as Group Chief Information Officer, with effect from summer 2026.
Chris joins Aviva with extensive global technology and transformation leadership experience across financial services and telecommunications. In his new role, he will lead Aviva’s group-wide technology strategy, digital transformation agenda, cyber resilience, and enterprise architecture — supporting the insurer’s ambition to deliver innovative, customer-centric insurance, wealth, and retirement solutions.
Chris currently serves as CITO at M&G plc, where he has led technology and innovation initiatives since 2018. During his tenure, he has been responsible for driving large-scale technology transformation programmes, strengthening operational resilience, and modernising digital capabilities across the organisation. He also served as Interim Chief Operating Officer at M&G plc, further broadening his enterprise leadership experience.
Prior to M&G plc, Chris held senior CIO roles at BT Group, including CIO, BT Global Services and CIO, Service Delivery, Openreach. Over nearly a decade at BT, he led complex global transformation programmes, enterprise technology modernisation, and large-scale service delivery operations. His earlier career includes leadership roles in transformation, global banking and financial markets technology delivery, and network deployment strategy, along with foundational experience as a software engineer at Openwave Systems.
With over two decades of technology leadership spanning financial services, telecoms, and digital infrastructure, Chris Cochrane brings deep expertise in enterprise technology strategy, operational excellence, and transformation leadership to Aviva as it continues to strengthen its digital capabilities.
