Jharsuguda, Odisha, India, November 2025 — Kuntal Das has rejoined the Aditya Birla Group, taking on the role of Assistant General Manager – Human Resources at Hindalco Industries Limited. Known for his expertise in employee relations, HR business partnering, and talent management, Kuntal brings with him a wealth of experience across the manufacturing and metals industries. His return to Hindalco marks a homecoming to a company where his HR journey first began.
At Hindalco, Kuntal will be responsible for leading HR strategy and people development initiatives across business operations, with a focus on enhancing workforce capability, industrial relations, and employee engagement within one of India’s most respected and sustainability-driven industrial organizations.
Before rejoining Hindalco, Kuntal Das spent over four years with Tata Steel, most recently serving as Area Manager – HRBP (Corporate), where he led HR operations across 27 pan-India locations, supporting a workforce of nearly 3,000 employees. In this role, he implemented workforce optimization programs, capability-building frameworks, and cross-unit initiatives such as HR Explore, designed to drive collaboration and shared learning across HR cohorts. Earlier at Tata Steel, as Senior Manager – HRBP (Factory), he handled HR and IR for a 1,000-member workforce in a highly unionized environment in West Bengal, successfully concluding long-term settlements and launching large-scale skill development programs that boosted productivity.
Prior to Tata Steel, Kuntal worked with Hindalco Industries Limited in multiple HR roles for over four years, including Manager – Employee Relations, Assistant Manager – HR & IR, and Trainee-HR under the Young HR Professionals (YHRP) program. During his tenure, he managed ER and contract labor for a 5,000-employee smelter and power plant, played a key role in long-term settlements, and contributed to employee welfare and industrial harmony.
Kuntal Das holds a Master’s in Human Resource Management (MHRM) from IISWBM, Kolkata, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management (PGCHRM) from XLRI Jamshedpur, specializing in Strategic HR Leadership and Industrial Relations.
