Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, April 2025 – Melenie Parsons has been appointed as the Head of Human Resources at the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA). In her new role, she will be responsible for leading and advancing HR strategy, employee engagement, talent development, and culture initiatives that support WESSA’s mission to promote sustainable environmental practices and youth development throughout South Africa.
Prior to joining WESSA, Melenie served as Human Resources Manager at Browns the Diamond Store for approximately five years, where she played a key role in shaping the company’s people strategy across retail operations. Her responsibilities included employee relations, performance management, HR analytics, and driving talent retention and wellness programs within a dynamic retail environment.
Earlier, she held the position of Human Resources Business Partner at Nespresso (Top Coffee) for over three years, where she led succession planning, coaching, and HRIS implementation, contributing to a strong culture of learning and performance in a fast-paced consumer brand setting.
Before that, Melenie was an HR Officer at Smollan, a field marketing and sales solutions company, where she supported Unilever’s field sales operations in South Africa. Her contributions included employee development and strategic workforce planning, backed by strong HR project management capabilities.
She began her career with long-term roles at OEC Training Institute and Nashua Mobile, where she accumulated valuable experience in HR and training functions, building expertise in talent strategy, organizational change, and learning and development over more than a decade.
