Lagos, Nigeria, December 2024 – Obiora Awogu has assumed the role of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at MoMo from MTN, marking a significant milestone in his cybersecurity career. With an extensive background in IT security, data privacy, and incident management, Obiora is set to drive MoMo’s security strategies as the platform scales its innovative financial services offerings across Nigeria and beyond.
Before joining MoMo from MTN, Obiora served as the Chief Information Security Officer at Hydrogen, where he implemented robust security assessments and incident management strategies to safeguard critical assets. Prior to this, he held various leadership roles at First Bank of Nigeria Ltd., including Head of Application and Data Security, where he championed the implementation of security standards for digital banking platforms, and Lead Cybersecurity Manager, where he introduced advanced technologies such as XDR and SOAR, significantly enhancing the bank’s threat detection and incident response capabilities.
Earlier in his career, Obiora honed his expertise in fraud detection and information systems control at UBA Group and Fidelity Bank PLC. At UBA, he was instrumental in reducing e-channel fraud and earned executive commendation for recovering significant losses. At Fidelity Bank, he spearheaded compliance initiatives and secured critical e-channel systems.
