India and Middle East, March 2025 – Ranjan Bhattacharya has taken on the role of Managing Director – Head of Strategy for Middle East & India and Chief of Staff to CEO India at HSBC. With a distinguished career spanning over 24 years at HSBC, Ranjan has played a key role in shaping strategic initiatives, governance frameworks, and business development for the bank. As a member of HSBC’s India Executive Committee, he will oversee business strategy, government and industry relations, and lead the Inclusive Banking Unit in India. His expanded responsibilities reflect HSBC’s focus on strengthening its strategic presence across the Middle East and India regions.

Prior to this appointment, Ranjan Bhattacharya served as Managing Director – Chief of Staff and Head of Strategy at HSBC India, where he spearheaded key projects in digital strategy, strategic planning, and policy advocacy. His leadership was pivotal in expanding HSBC’s Inclusive Banking framework and enhancing government and industry engagements.
Before that, he held leadership roles within HSBC Securities Services, serving as Head of Direct Custody and Clearing, India, where he managed institutional investor relationships and contributed to market reform discussions. Earlier in his career, he was Head of Sales – West India, Global Payments and Cash Management, where he played a crucial role in driving product innovation and strengthening HSBC’s financial institutional client base.
With extensive experience in business strategy, financial services, and industry leadership, Ranjan Bhattacharya has been instrumental in driving HSBC’s long-term vision, fostering financial inclusion, and supporting key leadership in business transformation initiatives. He is also recognized for championing diversity and inclusion initiatives, including co-founding HSBC’s ‘Balance’ employee resource group.
