In his new role, Sharma will be responsible for steering the company’s HR strategy, driving leadership development, building digital capabilities, and strengthening the people-first culture across USV’s pharmaceutical and consumer divisions.
Rohit Sharma joins USV after serving as Vice President & Head HR – India Formulations at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, where he spent the last five years leading HR for a business of 8,500+ employees and $1.8B in revenue. At Glenmark, he partnered closely with the CEO and Board to design Project REIMAGINE, realigning spans and layers for greater agility. He also architected a robust succession planning framework for 120+ leaders, introduced virtual assessment centers delivering significant cost and time savings, remodeled sales force compensation to retain critical talent, and strengthened diversity & inclusion initiatives that raised female leadership representation by 20%. Under his leadership, Glenmark was recognized among the Top 10 Pharma Employers in India (2023).
Before Glenmark, Sharma spent nearly a decade with Sun Pharma, where he rose to become Global Head – HR Operations & Technology, managing HR for 35,000+ employees across 46 countries. He played a pivotal role in the post-merger integration of Ranbaxy and Sun Pharma, conceptualized the HR Operations Centre of Excellence, and spearheaded a global HRIS implementation that automated 80% of workflows. His tenure also included driving cost optimization, negotiating critical union settlements, and pioneering an AI-driven attrition prediction model that reduced voluntary exits by 20%.
Earlier, he served as General Manager – HR at Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd., where he restructured organizational design in cardiology SBUs, revamped the performance management system, and created Torrent Assessment Centre (TACT) to assess succession readiness for 500+ employees. Sharma’s career trajectory at Torrent was marked by rapid progress, advancing from Assistant Manager to General Manager in just seven years.
Sharma holds a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from FMS, and most recently completed a Strategic HR Management Certification from XLRI Delhi-NCR (2024), underscoring his commitment to continuous learning and strategic HR leadership.
