Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, March 2026 – Sanjay Kargaonkar has been appointed as Chief General Manager Marketing (Industrial & Commercial Business Unit) at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
In this role, he serves as the #2 leadership position within the strategic Industrial & Commercial Business Unit, contributing to enterprise-level decision-making and growth strategy. He leads sales and marketing strategy for diversified industrial portfolios, drives value creation, volume growth, and margin optimization, and oversees supply chain, logistics, digital transformation, brand strategy, and international trade operations. His mandate also includes spearheading new product development initiatives such as LNG bunkering, biofuels, CBG, and biorefinery products aligned with Net Zero ambitions.
Before taking on this expanded mandate, Sanjay Kargaonkar served as Chief General Manager Sales (Industrial & Commercial Business Unit) at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. In that role, he delivered approximately ₹2,500 crore in annual net profit contribution within tight industry margins, accelerated green energy adoption, and strengthened digital integration across SAP, Salesforce, and CRM platforms to enhance execution efficiency.
Earlier, as Head – Marketing, Petrochemicals Portfolio, he led sales and marketing for India’s only domestic import-substitute propylene-derivative petrochemicals portfolio, protecting and expanding market leadership while enhancing contribution margins through value-based pricing and segmentation strategies.
As General Manager – Business Development (Industrial Fuels), he expanded BPCL’s footprint across East India and neighboring markets including Bangladesh and Nepal, launched new product verticals, and broke entrenched competitive monopolies through innovative sourcing and strategic partnerships.
Over a long tenure spanning more than three decades at BPCL, he has also served in regional leadership roles including Deputy General Manager (Industrial) – Northern Region, Territory Manager – Retail, and Sales Manager, building deep expertise across B2B industrial portfolios, institutional and PSU account management, cross-border trade, retail network expansion, and petroleum value chain dynamics.
Sanjay holds an MBA from SPJIMR SP Jain Institute of Management & Research and has completed the Strategic Thinking Program (MDP) at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
