Gurugram, Haryana, India, November 2025 — SpiceJet has announced the appointment of Sanjay Kumar as Executive Director, where he will lead the airline’s strategic initiatives focused on expansion, transformation, and sustainable growth. With over three decades of distinguished experience in the aviation industry, Kumar will report directly to Chairman Ajay Singh, playing a pivotal role in driving the carrier’s turnaround through fleet modernization, operational efficiency, and debt restructuring.
A veteran of India’s aviation landscape, Sanjay Kumar brings a wealth of expertise from leadership roles across leading airlines and aviation enterprises. He previously served as Advisor to the Director General, Saudia Group, where he guided the KSA–India subcontinent strategy for Saudia Airlines and Flyadeal, focusing on network optimization, operational efficiency, and revenue performance.
Before his advisory tenure, he held the role of President & CEO at InterGlobe Technology Quotient (ITQ), the official Travelport distribution partner for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Bhutan. During his leadership, ITQ strengthened its market position in the travel technology domain, enhancing B2B and B2C distribution networks across South Asia.
Kumar is best known for his long and impactful association with IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.), where he served in multiple leadership capacities — most recently as Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, and earlier as Chief Commercial Officer. Over his cumulative 14-year tenure at IndiGo, he was instrumental in scaling the airline from a fledgling startup with just six aircraft to India’s largest carrier, overseeing strategy, network planning, marketing, e-commerce, and revenue management.
Earlier, he also served as Chief Operating Officer at AirAsia India, leading cross-functional operations and strategic initiatives during the airline’s critical growth phase. Kumar’s earlier contributions to SpiceJet between 2001 and 2007 as Vice President – Planning & Marketing were instrumental in the carrier’s launch phase and early success. He played a central role in shaping the business model for the low-cost airline segment in India, including route planning, brand development, and customer engagement.
He began his aviation journey with Air Sahara, where he spent a decade managing marketing, sales, and network planning, laying a strong foundation in commercial aviation strategy.
With this return to SpiceJet in an executive leadership role, Sanjay Kumar brings a deep understanding of India’s aviation ecosystem and a proven record of strategic leadership. His appointment comes at a crucial juncture as the airline works toward financial stabilization, operational recovery, and renewed market growth.
