Melissa Rhodes Appointed as Vice President of Human Resources at Nightwing

Fairfax, Virginia, United States, September 2024 – Melissa Rhodes has been named the Vice President of Human Resources at Nightwing, where she will oversee corporate HR strategy, talent development, and employee relations across the organization. In this role, Melissa will focus on building a high-performing workforce that supports the company’s mission of delivering cutting-edge cyber and intelligence solutions.

Prior to joining Nightwing, Melissa Rhodes served as the Executive Director of Human Resources at Raytheon Intelligence & Space for over four years, where she played a pivotal role in shaping HR strategies for cybersecurity and special missions. Her work included overseeing talent management, workforce planning, and leadership development for Raytheon’s cybersecurity teams.

Before that, Melissa held the position of HR Director for Cybersecurity and Special Missions at Raytheon for nearly seven years. She was responsible for driving HR initiatives that supported Raytheon’s special missions programs, working closely with senior leadership to align HR functions with the company’s strategic goals.

Melissa’s extensive tenure at Raytheon also included three years as the HR Director for IDS Seapower Capability Systems, where she led human resources strategies for complex, multi-national programs in the defense sector. Her leadership in change management and organizational design was instrumental in ensuring the success of these high-value contracts.

Earlier in her career, Melissa served as the Assistant Director of Human Resources at L-3 Communications, where she provided global HR leadership for the company’s $450M x-ray security systems business. During her three-year tenure, she led two acquisition integrations, implemented performance management practices, and developed compensation programs.

In addition, Melissa started her career at GE Capital as a Human Resources Specialist, where she supported the global IT organization in areas such as employee relations, compensation planning, and talent development. Her experience at GE Capital laid the foundation for her expertise in managing large, diverse teams across global locations.

Matthew Breitfelder is Partner and Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo, where he focuses on attracting extraordinary talent to the firm and creating an innovative, inclusive, high-performance culture that brings out the best in Apollo’s people. Matt leads Apollo’s recruiting, talent management, compensation, succession planning, citizenship, employee relations, development, and culture work. He is also a member of the firm’s Leadership Team. Matt is committed to expanding opportunities across Apollo’s workplace, marketplace, and communities. Prior to joining Apollo, Matt was Chief Talent Officer at BlackRock as well as a member of the Operating Committee. Previously, he held strategy, talent, and innovation roles at Mastercard, PwC, and CEB/Gartner.

Matt holds a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, an MSc from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the boards of the Lumina Foundation, the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society program, the Milken Institute’s Inclusive Capitalism initiative, and Georgetown University’s initiative on AI, Analytics, and the Future of Work. He is the co-author of numerous Harvard Business School case studies and articles on leadership. Matt has been recognized as a Top Global CHRO multiple times by n2Growth and Stanford Business School.
