Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, December 2025 – Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. has appointed Smita Thakur as Senior Vice President – Legal, effective November 2025. In this role, Smita Thakur will be part of the firm’s senior legal leadership, supporting Oaktree’s global investment operations with legal oversight across its alternative investment platforms.
In her new role at Oaktree Capital Management, L.P., Smita Thakur steps into a senior legal leadership position within one of the world’s leading alternative investment managers. Her appointment reflects Oaktree’s emphasis on strong legal governance and risk-controlled investment practices as the firm continues to scale globally.
Prior to joining Oaktree, Smita Thakur spent over nine years at ANZ, where she served as Head of Legal, India. In this role, she led the legal function for the India operations of the global banking group, supporting complex financial, regulatory, and commercial matters across the organization.
Before ANZ, she was associated with Deutsche Bank for nearly six years, holding roles including Vice President, Global Markets Structuring and Assistant Vice President, Global Markets Structuring. Her tenure at Deutsche Bank provided her with deep exposure to global markets, structured products, and investment-related legal and structuring work.
Earlier in her career, Smita Thakur worked as a Senior Associate at Desai & Diwanji, a leading Indian law firm, where she built a strong foundation in legal advisory and transactional matters. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Symbiosis International University.
